Characteristics
„Dinner Plate” is a type of peony known for its large, showy blooms that are known for their unique fragrance. These flowers are frequently used in floral arrangements as cut flowers or as a stunning focal point in a garden, their height going up to 55 cm. The petals are typically full and ruffled colored in soft shades of white and pink. Some cultivars may also have bicolor petals or a delicate fragrance. Origin Dinner Plate Peony
„Dinner Plate” peonies are a cultivar of the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean native garden peonies named Paeonia lactiflora. The exact origins of the dinner plate peony are unknown, but it is thought to have been developed in the mid-20th century in the United States by hybridizing various peony species.
The Dinner Plate peony was bred to produce larger, more impressive flowers, which is why they are often referred to as “show peonies.” Breeders worked hard to create varieties with larger and fuller petals, as well as a wider color range.
There are numerous cultivars of dinner plate peonies available today, each with its distinct characteristics and features. These peonies are still popular among gardeners.
Flower Care
Here are some care recommendations for a peony bouquet: When you receive the peonies bouquet, carefully remove it from its packaging. Under running water, cut the flower stems diagonally at a 45-degree angle with clean and sharp scissors. This will prevent air bubbles from forming in the stems, which can obstruct water uptake. To prevent bacterial growth in the vase, remove any leaves or foliage that are below the water line. Choose a vase that is clean and large enough to hold the peonies. Fill it with clean, fresh water. If the bouquet includes flower food, mix it into the water according to the package directions. If you don't have flower food, you can add a pinch of sugar to the water to help keep the water clean and the flowers nourished. Change the water every two days and recut the stems at a 45-degree angle to assist the flowers in absorbing water.
