Origin Red Sarah Bernhardt Peony

The „Red Sarah Bernhardt” peony is a hybrid peony produced in the late 1800s by renowned French breeder Victor Lemoine. Sarah Bernhardt, a personal friend and frequent patron of Lemoine’s nursery, inspired him to name the peony after her.
The actual parentage of the Sarah Bernhardt peony is unknown because Lemoine had extensive breeding records, which were regrettably lost during WWII. It is thought to be a hybrid of two other peony kinds, likely Paeonia lactiflora and Paeonia officinalis.
Because of its gorgeous blooms, sweet perfume, and hardiness, the Sarah Bernhardt peony quickly became a famous variety in France and around the world. It is still one of the most popular peony kinds today.

Flower Care

Here are some care recommendations for a peony bouquet: When you receive the peonies bouquet, carefully remove it from its packaging. Under running water, cut the flower stems diagonally at a 45-degree angle with clean and sharp scissors. This will prevent air bubbles from forming in the stems, which can obstruct water uptake. To prevent bacterial growth in the vase, remove any leaves or foliage that are below the water line. Choose a vase that is clean and large enough to hold the peonies. Fill it with clean, fresh water. If the bouquet includes flower food, mix it into the water according to the package directions. If you don't have flower food, you can add a pinch of sugar to the water to help keep the water clean and the flowers nourished. Change the water every two days and recut the stems at a 45-degree angle to assist the flowers in absorbing water. You can help ensure that your peonies bouquet stays fresh and beautiful for as long as possible by following these steps.
